Who’s developer portal is best? Why?
We’re working on revising our developer/API site (yes, again). Our team, scope, and client list is expanding somewhat, so we need to accommodate that growth.
Our goal is to make the portal for developers as useful, usable, and well-designed (for you) as possible. Those are all loaded terms and could mean very different things to very different people, even within the developer community.
So we’d like to know what our current developer partners think.
I’ve set up a current on IdeaX where you can submit your ideas for others to vote and comment on. If you don’t feel like taking a second to set up an Ideax account, just leave your ideas here in the comments.
We’re really curious to know about the design elements of good developer focused portals/sites that make them easier to work with. This is not to be confused with the API itself (although ideas/suggestions on that are always welcome).
One example we’ve gotten already is from one of our internal developers, Brian Michelich (@brianmichelich) who shared the Twitapi explorer as a cool and useful feature for developers.
Small company, big company, retailer, social network, doesn’t matter; we’re just trying to get at the design and features that you think are best.
What do you think?
Data Problems Found! Fix in Progress. UPDATE
Over the last few days a number of various data inconsistency issues have been brought to our attention, after some thorough investigation and checking between BestBuy.com and our source systems we are in process on a fix for the issues.
We are re-processing some past and current data updates. This will cover all products to ensure we fix any issues we may not know about currently. Prices and product availability are unaffected and appear to be accurate.
Much of the issues should be fixed by tomorrow afternoon.
Some known examples of the issues include:
- Incorrect release dates on pre-order product (appears to be centered around games)
- Image URLs incorrect or inconsistent
- Products shown as active=true when the product is no longer on dotcom.
Please watch the blog for further updates. I will also post back when the issue appears to be solved.
Thanks to all of you who brought these issues to our attention and your patience.
UPDATE:
The issues seem to be repaired, I’ve spent the past day checking and watching. I think we are in good shape.
If you still see problems, comment here, hit the twitter account (@bestbuyremix), post in the forums, or send us an email remix AT bestbuy DOT com.
